Sam asked:

I would like to build my miniature cow business and I only have three females. These cows are easy keepers and very cost effient. They can be butchered to receive about a half of beef which is more logical to most peoples freezer space. They are more docile and do not require the fencing and food comsumpion of a full grown. It take very little area and pasture to keep them. Most think they are raised for pets. They can be very useful for grass mowing and well as food supply.

I have no collateral but the new building and equipment would be a source of that. I am looking to be a franchisee for a large restaurant chain. My credit score is an average of the three, which is 640. Is it stupid to think this is possible or is it.

I am in the process of writing a business plan to obtain a loan with the SBA assistance to operate a takeout restaurant.
Collecting the financial data is a nightmare since a lot of it is projections and estimates.

What makes it more difficult is we’re building the business from the ground up.
We’ve gotten most of the bigger cost items on paper but it’s the little things that haunting us.

Most of the contractors and suppliers won’t give you the time of day because they feel like you’re wasting their time.
I do know that time is money.

I am almost 50 years old and have workrd hard most all of my life. My health is not very good. I have C.O.P.D. and an unidentified auto immune disorder alon the lines of RA or Lupus. My medical expenses are quite high including my meds. I work in telecom and I am getting to the point where the labor is more than my lungs can take. I have no money or assets and my credit is poor. I have been classified as handicapped and I could probably qualify for disability benefits from Social Security, but I still want to work. I am a former fiber optic splicer and I am a splicing inspector now, supervising contractors. I am trying to find financial help to start a splicing company. I do not qualify for an SBA loan because I have bad credit. While I can’t o out and do the work I can teach others to do it and run the job if I could get the backing to start the company and keep it going until the jobs bean to pay. The start up costs would be close to $100,000. I have been looking for grants.

How do I know when to pay someone as an employee (W-2 and W-4) or as a contractor (1099-MISC)?

Ethan A asked:

I run a small business with a partner (currently an S-Corp). A few outside individuals have loaned us some money to help the business grow (mainly family and friends). As the company’s revenue grows, these investors will get payouts from the company. I don’t know if these are called dividends or what, but these investors have no actual ownership or stock in the company.

My question is, how do I pay these people? As employees? As contractors? Which is better? Is there a better and legal way I am supposed to pay them?

The provide no actual work or service for the company, although I could just make something up.

Any ideas on what to do in this situation?
The payouts may be for the life of the company, so is calling these payments interest on the loan really legal? Many of the payments may end up being five times larger than the original loan itself.
